Refractive Errors in Children

Refractive Errors in Children

Short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hypermetropia) and astigmatism are extremely common in children, and because young children rarely complain about blurred vision, these conditions often go unnoticed until they start affecting schoolwork or behaviour — squinting at the board, sitting too close to the television, or losing interest in reading.

We offer comprehensive, child-friendly vision screening using age-appropriate testing methods, including for children too young to read a standard eye chart. Where a refractive error is identified, we prescribe accurately fitted glasses suited to the child's age and activity level, and schedule regular follow-ups to track how the prescription changes as the child grows — since refractive errors, particularly myopia, can progress through childhood and need periodic reassessment rather than a one-time correction.
